At Bennett Place near Durham, Generals Sherman and Johnston negotiated the Civil War’s largest troop surrender, signing the agreement on April 26, 1865.

The agreement ended hostilities for the troops under Johnston’s command and set out the terms for their return home. DukeTown’s stacked-rifles whimsy connects this history to a small piece of the puzzle.
